I'm another R&S pursuing Security.
I works with PIX's, ACS server, and VPN concentrators alot, though rarely
come across the IDS hardware - Snort is more powerful than anything Cisco
have. Though I am planning to buy the 6500 IDS blade when the new version
finally comes out - I'm using the PIX blades so have 24 separate DMZ
segments - way too many for conventional probes.
I've worked with Checkpoint a fair bit and did the CCSE, I also used
Gauntlet firewall, though haven't seen it for a while - it was soooo slow.
I busy reading Network Security Principles & Practices which is a very good
book on PIX and FW IOS and IPSEC.
I don't expect to get to the lab 'till Q3 03 so I'm not worrying about that
yet - the couple of people (both Cisco SE's) who have taken it (and failed),
both had issues with the R&S content rather than the security side.
Anybody in LA on here ?
Simon

Hi Chuck,
I am also a R/S guy and will pursue a Security CCIE. Right now I am going
about it informally by reading the Cisco Security books and whatever I can
find on Cisco's web site. I am using my R/S lab at home and building my own
labs, IPSec tunnels, Pix, ACS, etc. Eventually I will look at purchasing
some lab scenarios, maybe from Hello Computers. What do you think your
approach will be? If there are any guys in Chicago who would like to study
together for CCIE Security, contact me offline.
Thanks

Subject: Hello
All,
I just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm thinking pretty hard about
going for the CCIE Security. My current CCIE is R&S. Haven't seen any
messages since I joined yesterday, just wondering if there's many people on
this list.
Thanks,
Chuck Church
