Good book is "Voice & Data Communications Handbook" by Bud Bates/Donald
Gregory. 3rd edition is presently out with 4th edition coming out in
October.

The book is a good analysis up to intermediate level, else, if you already
are comfortable with these protocols I would recommend reading the actuall
specifications. This book is more in depth than the Ulyess Black book (as I
recall looking at it in a book store once).
