For me the 2 years experience thing is always a red herring. I got around
$60k when I left the army about 6 years ago (after 22 years served). For me
that was a 100% raise so even though people told me that was low - I was in
seventh heaven.

At that time I had around 15 years IT experience in general desktop and 5
years in Unix and Banyan and 2 years in NT. (MCSE/CBE/CBI)

I have since attained CCDP/CCNP and have worked full time with Cisco for a
couple of years. I expect to try the CCIE written within the next month.

So for me personally I have a lot of server experience, know the issues
about getting them talking and now I have a much better idea of the
infrastructure side with the Cisco certs.

So its always hard to say what you're worth. Every job is different and
every person is different. I make a lot more (a lot more) than $60k now and
at times I still think about the good 'ol army days and think - man.... I'm
the same guy but you wouldn't know it by my paycheque.

I've always wondered why Canada is behind the US on the wage front. Also,
the wages between Toronto and Ottawa are scary. My house would cost a
fortune in Toronto but I would probably make much less there.

Just from my knowledge of the cost of living in Vancouver I think you're
making too little. I would figure at least 20 - 35% more would be
appropriate but there is so much more to salary/benefits that it will always
be impossible to say.......
