They are a venture capital company.

They claim they are having no troube getting more venture
capital even in this present environment. As it is, they
don't plan to be turning a profit any time soon.

They are targeting what is called the "last mile" which
has traditionally been very exensive and complicated
because it is usually owned by the local incumbant
phone company monopoly and is designed for voice, not data.

(By the way, a Cisco router is basically a device that adapts
data traffic to use a line that really was designed to connect
metropolitan phone switches together.)

Basically they go around buying 20 year leases on dark fiber,
and connecting their clients sites to each other or the internet.
They do everything over native gig ethernet on the fiber, which
cuts out an enormous amount of expense and complexity.

I think they are going to drastically change the networking world
as we know it.

Right now, they don't seem to have any real competion, and it's
probably going to stay that way because the way Yipes! does things is so
opposed to the way the big carriers think and where their
investments are that it's unlikely that they are going to take Yipes!
approach any time soon.

But, the one problem is that if Yipes! can do it, so can anyone else with
a spare $40,000,00.

My opinion is that as other companies realize what Yipes! had done,
and take the same approach you may see price wars and a
death spiral for these kind of companies in a few years, much like
the U.S railroads in the late 19th century.
