Not out of line at all if it got you want you wanted ;)
A big part (unfortunately) is knowing someone that can get your
foot in the door.  This is tough if you have limited contacts of course.
As Jim stated below, it's very much a catch-22.  Gotta have a job
to get the experience but can't get a job without experience.....ad nauseum.
Gotta force your way in!!  Bust down the door and say here I am, take me
or leave me.  Then....when they leave you, try someone else!
