MCSE and $5.00 will get you a cup of coffee, at Starbucks, in Central FL.
Experience, Experience, Experience. It is the old Catch-22.
I have been in the business for 14 years. My CCNA got me more interviews
and better quality employers than my MSCE, ASE, CBE, A+, or 3Wizard put
together. Even though I only have a year of hands on Cisco experience with
mainly 2500's and a few 4000's. I could not get Lucent or other high end
solution providers to return my phone calls or e-mails without my CCNA. Now
I get two or more quality contacts a week.
Florida is a unique market. Low cost of living and reasonably priced
housing except Miami, and No State Tax. But there are to many "consultants"
fresh out of a one bootcamp another diluting the job market willing to work
for $15-25/hr. I use to get "recruiting professionals" contacting me with
an opportunity for $18-24/hr and how grateful I should be for their hard
work. They also very surprised when I informed them that I was already
making more than that.
Best bet for working in Florida, Find a northern based company. Every
interview I have had with companies based in the North, find my salary
requirements reasonably. Just the opposite is true for southern based
companies.
My $0.02 worth!!
