My experience is that it's slightly easier for an MCSE, MCNE, CNE, etc., to break into the networking world than it is a newly minted CCNA with no experience in the industry. Much industry experience transfers well from one discipline (servers) to
another (pure networking). As an experienced MCSE, I made the transition to CCNP quite seamlessly.
I also think that attitude makes a HUGE difference in the ability of a newcomer to break into the job market. I see far too many newly certified people (especially MCSEs, but including CCNAs) think that just because they took a cram course and passed
the tests, they're automatically entitled to $70k jobs. I think much of the blame is on the teaching centers that are making the most of the current certification frenzy by promising pie in the sky results with no experience. If you're realistic about
the strength of your skillset in relation to the competition, and you position yourself accordingly, you should have no problem finding a job. If your greatest claim to fame is that you took a class and are a CCNA, be prepared to either make
concessions (lower salary, less glamorous work) or look longer for that dream job.
Just my $0.02...
