Another alternative to HelpDesk and NOC (don't kNOCk the experience you can
get there) posistions could be a local or regional Network Integrator. Some
of these smaller companies would be willing to take on junior folks and
train 'em up right. You might be a "rack and stack" guy for a while and
break in on simple config jobs as you progress, but if you show initiative
and have that first cert you could run up the ranks relatively quickly. Many
of these companies are breeding grounds for the guys and gals that move on
to the Cisco's, KPMG's, Lucent's and so forth. Turnover can be high as the
senior folks move onto the national Integration and consultant firms.
Check your local phonebook for Network/Systems Integrators and start
calling. Good luck.

I do not want to sound negitive, but you might want to take that job at

What are the chances a new CCNA with no experience, fresh out of the
Cisco Academy, can get even an entry level job working with routers?
If the chances are too dismal, maybe I'll just take that job on the help
desk. (I won't even get out of the Academy until the Fall.)
