On the contrary, guys, "Gentlemen," is still an acceptable form of generic
address. Should it become "Gentlepersons" or "Gentle(wo)men" instead (like
"Dear Sir/Madam")?
Before you bring out the heavy artillery, I've been the first or second
woman in the job since 1975, and I understand that what we say helps shape
how we think. However, let's not go too far. I'm confident that if a
qualified woman applies for this position (wish I were, but I'm not there
yet....), any company too stupid/shortsighted to look past her for a
lesser-qualified male will get exactly what it deserves...less.
