at the
risk of soapboxing again, may I suggest that there are jobs for beginners. Maybe
not a lot. Maybe hard to find. but they are there. managers can and will give
you a chance if you can demonstrate that you are the kind of person to can add
value, are a problem solver, and can help make the manager's life
easier.
some
things to consider:
in the
interview, do you present yourself as someone willing and eager to
learn?
do you
come across as someone just looking for a job, or as someone who goes out of
his/her way to add value to the job?
when
asked a question, and you don't know the answer, how do you respond? I don't
know? or I don't know. But let me write down the question, research it tonight,
and call you tomorrow morning with what I have discovered?
when
asked what you are looking for in a job, do you respond with the old "a
challenging position where I can learn and grow"? or do you try to inject a bit
of your dreams and aspirations into your answer? Something like "I enjoy solving
problems in such a way that our clients are back in operation and that the
problem will not happen again."? Or "I want to work with people who share a
common goal of no downtime, and who will work their butts off to meet that
commitment"? sounds hoaky, and maybe my wording is. But I'm sure you can come up
with some good ideas with a little thought.
that
first job is tough to find. but it is there, if you keep your eyes open, and
your goals clear. add value. solve problems.
best
wishes.
