What do you mean you can't sniff a token ring lan. I run TR sniffers daily.
If the media is a shared hub all you have to do is plug in the sniffer and
go. If it is detected media i.e. a switch port you need to span the port to
another and plug in the TR sniffer. I don't know if Cisco has completely
fixed a problem it regards to spanning a TR switch port on the 5500 cards,
but there is potential to lock up the entire TR module you are sniffing.
Advice from Cisco was to only snap the port when needed and to limit the time
you have span turned on to avoid this.
