I can't speak to how much IS-IS will be on exams, but it is 
definitely not a dead protocol for ISPs.  Cisco may be fielding its 
traffic engineering extensions first on IS-IS, then on OSPF.

In my carrier router organization at Nortel, we see both IS-IS and 
OSPF as very real requirements.

If Cisco ever develops a serious ISP routing certification, it might 
make sense to move IS-IS to that.  Essentially, it's a niche protocol 
today.

I expect to be doing an IS-IS tutorial at NANOG in June, coauthored 
with Shantam Biswas.  It will be available on the net when finished.
