I'm not really sure what you mean by 'layer 3 trunking'. Trunking refers to
the ability of a link to carry more than one VLAN through the use of
trunking protocol - ISL or 802.1Q. It's purely a layer 2 thing. But for
what it's worth, you can create a trunk between a 3550 and any trunk-capable
router, such as a 2600, 3600,etc. And please, before anyone mentions that
you need a fast ethernet interface on the router, a 10 mbit will work with
the right feature set on some platforms.
