Actually, I was wrong.  I have just tested it.  "bridge 1 route ip" is
required on both sides for this scenario to work.

You are right. I thought it was on the same router.
Well, technically it should work. Try adding ips to the serial
interfaces for testing purposes. See if you can ping across.
