irb problem

all interface in bridge group 1,but the bvi interface can not ping each 
other,why?

r1 config:
int e1
bridge-group 1
int s0
bridge-group 1
int bvi 1
ip add 172.16.1.1 255.255.255.0
bridge irb
bridge 1 protocol ieee

r2:
int e2
bridge-group 1
int s0
bridge-group 1
int bvi 1
ip add 172.16.1.2 255.255.255.0
bridge irb
bridge 1 protocol ieee
