Order of Operations in the Switching Path
 
(this list does not include all available features)
 
1.  compression / decompression
2.  encryption
3.  inbound access-list (packet filters)
4.  unicast reverse path check
5.  input rate limiting
6.  physical broadcast: ip helper addresses etc.
7.  decrement TTL - if not already done
8.  inspection subsystem (firewall features)
9.  outside to inside nat translation
10.  Handle the router alert flags in the IP header
11.  Search for outbound interface in the routing table 
12.  policy routing
13.  web cache redirect
14.  inside to outside nat translaton
15.  encryption
16.  output access-list (packet filters) 
17.  inspection subsystem final checks (firewall features)
18.  TCP intercept processing

That was from my message. I just wanted to get it cleared (for
proprietary/confidiality issues) before posting it. I know a 
sanitized version of it went out in one of Russ White's latest
books (his architecture book I think). Give me another day and
I'll get it posted.
